Université Blaise Pascal Launches New Two-year Masters Degree in Languages and Technical Communication

Thinking of a career as a technical communicator, translator or writer?

The LEA program at University Blaise Pascal (Clermont-Ferrand) is now accepting applications for its two-year Masters degree in Languages and Technical Communication (LCT). Applications for Fall 2008 must be received by 2 September 2008.

LCT's multilingual course offerings will allow you to specialize in applied translation and translation management systems, while expanding your attractivity for potential employers as a technical communicator.

In LCT, you will receive hands-on training in:

  • the most current theories in communication and human factors, applied to designing user-based documents
  • visual and web-based communication
  • the fundamentals of business to help you learn how to best integrate your communication project into your company's business plan:
    • business strategies
    • knowledge management
    • business intelligence
    • company information systems
    • project management
    • localization
    • translation management systems
    • European law and marketing
  • communication technology languages and software:
    • HTML and XML languages
    • Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver
    • MySQL and PHPMyAdmin
    • Antidote RX
    • Concordance
    • Structured Framemaker
    • Single source and collaborative authoring tools
    • Desktop publishing tools.

In LCT, you will have the opportunity to combine your theoretical and practical experience during three semesters of coursework and two 4- to 5-month obligatory work placements, which you can carry out either in France or abroad.

Are you interested in becoming a researcher or teacher in professional or technical communication? In the second year, LCT offers a module in research issues in technical communication to give you the basis you need to continue on with a doctorate in communication studies.
